File #7

Kanji characters.... are your shirts mocking you?

Butt's view:The other day there was this guy proudly modeling his cap with a big, chinese character saying "FOOT" on it. Of course, no one would really knows that and think it's just cool, because ooh, hey, it's not the alphabet!

Sure, chinese/japanese/other characters are "pretty" and reminds you of the karate movies which your brain would then associate with the word "cool", but the truth is, the jeans you are wearing right now may just be saying "I'm an ass" on it. (no pun intended, Agent Ass ;) So please, next time when you are considering getting a tatoo that says "girl power" or "peace" in kanji, think of a chinese guy having a tatoo saying the same thing but with Roman (greek?) letters (aka Alphabet.)

The look you'll have on your face would be the same one he'll have on his face.

Ass' view:
Well, considering the fact that I don’t understand the characters, it’s kind of difficult for me to form an opinion on the matter. But, I will add what I can to what Butt put so eloquently. I do find it funny that our society is so fixated on symbols which most of us don’t even understand. As nice as they may look, they’re symbols, not designs to put on one's shirt. I find it both stupid and idiotic that people would display such things as though they were amusing. I must admit, that I own a pair of jeans with symbols on them, and I that I now regret buying it just for that reason. But, this does not change my opinion that they’re letters, not art (yes, i do realize that their meaning was established through the shape they were meant to represent, but that does not qualify them as art, they are used as a language). And if we are to appreciate them, it should be for their meaning, not look.
